Gladys celebrates epic mileston with not one but four parties!

SINGERS regaled the latest Bognor Regis centenarian when she arrived for the first of her special birthday parties. The 15 members of the Laburnum Centre's choir delighted Gladys Barnard with Velia by Franz Lehar when she arrived for the occasion.
Mrs Barnard sang in the choir untill two years ago when she switched to the Friday calligraphy lessons. She also goes along to the Lyon Street centre to its hairdresser on Tuesdays. She said: "I've been a member of the centre for the 15 years I've lived in Bognor. I can't beleive where the time has gone so quickly. I've always found the people here to be friendly and very nice."
She was given an honorary membership of the centre to celebrate her status as its oldest member.
The party on 3rd April - with a homemade cake forming the number 100 - was followed by another last Thursday held by Mrs Barnard's neighbours in the High Street. A further party was given by her daughter and three grandchildren on her birthday on Easter Sunday. The celebrations end with a fourth bash for those who couldn't make the others.  Mrs Barnard attributed reaching 100 to a moderate lifestyle and taking care of herself.

Bobble Day 2012 - Spread the Warmth

Spread the Warmth is the Age UK national winter initiative with the goal to reduce suffering and preventable winter deaths during winter amongst people in later life.

The Spread the Warmth Campaign finale is Bobble Day, Friday 10th February 2012 - a day for the public, staff, schools, corporate partners and the public to support the campaign and help prevent thousands of older people suffering needlessly in winter by buying or making a Bobble and wearing it with pride.

We would be delighted if you could get involved by buying a bobble from one of our Age UK shops, organising some sort of fund raiser with family, friends work etc.  Please tell us about your bobbling adventures and/ or send us any pictures to our Facebook Page and/or website.

We will also be organising different fund raising activities on the run up and a big event on Bobble Day (Friday 10th February), so please keep checking our Facebook Page and website regularly to find out what's happening. There will also be competitions and raffles with some fantastic prizes to be won to our activity centres!!

Bobbles will be sold at all of our Age UK shops in West Sussex and also Wilkinsons hardware in the run up to Bobble Day, where we have asked for a £1 donation for each bobble bought. We ask people to wear their bobble to show their support. We would love to see how imaginative you have been with your bobble wearing, so please send us any photos. (See photos attached for ideas of how the bobbles can be worn)

We want Bobble Day to be a wonderful fundraising day covering the whole of the UK and in years to come we hope it will be as big as Comic Relief Day.

It would be fantastic if you could show your support and get involved in Age UK's campaign to prevent thousands of older people suffering needlessly in winter. Although taking part should be a memorable and exciting day, it will also mark the shocking fact that during the winter over 250 older people die needlessly every day in the UK as a result of the cold. Your taking part in the Age UK's winter campaign will help spread the warmth!

Please contact Caron on 01903 731800 to confirm that you would like to take part.

We look forward to hearing from you!
